Few large lots come on the market in Media, PA, so a long-time Media resident jumped at the opportunity to spread out on three-plus acres. The property came with a modest farmhouse on a high ridge, with a steep slope at the rear. The slope presented a challenge for expanding the house and building the outdoor living spaces.
Project Details
It would take 24 months of planning, coordination, and skilled execution to achieve the family’s dream home and outdoor living space. The owner, Darryl Cilli gives credit to the team he put together. Architect Sam Kim developed the master plan, working closely with Chris Volk to fit the pool, spa and outdoor living pieces together to harmonize with the overall plan. During construction, Sam and Chris worked with builder Dominic Burgese. Mark Brogan, whose company specializes in tennis court construction, built the pro-level tennis court.
The Cillis’s pool, spa, and pool house occupy prime space in the overall plan, setting the stage for all you see and all that happens in the outdoor living area. “Chris Volk isn’t just your usual pool contractor,” Cilli said. “He’s an excellent designer. He nailed the location—where he sited and oriented the pool, where he located the pool’s infinity edge.”
And then there’s the spa. “Chris elevated the spa, so it rises from the pool, with its own infinity edge. When you sit in the spa you’ve got the best view of all.”

"Chris Volk is an artist. His choice of materials throughout the area adds just the right texture and contrast. The lighting Chris designed is amazing. He’s equally good when it comes to the best mechanical and construction choices. We thought a salt system was best to sanitize pool water, but Chris recommended Ozone. It turned out the Ozone system is one of the best moves we made. It’s like swimming in fresh water."Homeowner
