Our Design-Build-Maintain process explained
For nearly seventy years, Budd has invested in people, technology, and the development of an integrated design-build-maintain process. It’s a process that guides every step we take to create and service the best in outdoor living at home. And now, we’ve created a book that explains every step.
Following is a short summary of “Built Well by Budd,” our new 48-page illustrated guidebook. At the end, you’ll learn how to get your own copy, plus a free consultation to get you started on your own outdoor living plans.
The book takes you through the entire Budd Quality by Design Process, which encompasses everything from designing, to building, and maintaining your custom pool.
The discovery
Each project starts with a series of discovery conversations. When we first meet, we’ll walk with you through your outdoor space. We’ll explore all your wishes, the project objectives, and develop an initial budget that meets your wishes and objectives.
The design process
Next comes the design process. Design development includes establishing the best place for your pool. We’ll surface any issues, such as the need for engineering exploration or planning to meet code and environmental requirements. We’ll develop multiple design concepts and create realistic 3D renderings. In the final design steps, we develop an efficient, buildable master plan and secure the building permits.
The build process
Before we build, we prepare the site, taking steps to protect the surrounding area, and establish a precise layout for the entire project. We follow a carefully orchestrated sequence of steps to excavate, install underground plumbing and utilities, build the structural framework for the pool, and then pour concrete (vinyl liner pools) or apply shotcrete (“gunite” pools). At this point, we allow sufficient time for proper curing of the concrete. Next comes installation and finishes, such as coping, decking, surrounding hardscape, and landscaping.

Luxury vinyl liner pools
Both vinyl and shotcrete pools offer flexibility in shape. Shotcrete is fully custom, while vinyl liner pools start with a classic form that can be tailored to your style.
Our custom concrete and vinyl liner pools deliver great luxury and real value for those who want the best quality at a more affordable price. We call our Luxury Vinyl Liner Pools the Affordable Luxury Pool. This concrete and steel pool meets the high standards for strength and durability that we set for every pool and spa we build. It can be designed and built more quickly than a comparable gunite pool, looks like gunite, retains a smoother surface than gunite, and costs less to service.
Ultra-luxury shotcrete pools
Our ultra-luxury pools are built with shotcrete, not gunite. This is outdoor living perfected: custom pools and spas, surrounded by outdoor dining and living areas, fire and water features, lighting and sound, automated ozone-enhanced water treatment systems, and a dedicated team of pool service and maintenance technicians.
